Star Lao Thai Restaurant (195 Hamilton Rd Fairfield NSW 2165)

If you're ever driving past Hamilton Rd, this little Thai/Lao restaurant is worth a try. My workmate has recommended this restaurant to me several times, telling me how cheap it is and how delicious their meals are! The restaurant is not very easy to spot, it isn't very fancy either but it feels comfortable and welcoming. I went on a Thursday night and it wasn't very busy. I went with my boyfriend and an old friend. We ordered a few dishes to share (I always order similar dishes at every Thai restaurant I go to). I enjoy trying the same dishes at different restaurants just to get a taste of how it is cooked :)

Fish Cakes (Tod Mun Plaa) - $8
These fish cakes were really spicy! My friend enjoyed it very much as she loves her spicy food. I'm not a big fan of spicy food as I have said in my previous entries however, if you do like spicy food why not try this out!

Thai Fried Rice (plain-small) - $8
The fried rice tasted like normal fried rice that I eat regularly. It's no surprise to me. The flavouring was perfect, and the rice did not taste dry or hard. It was fried well and it was beautiful.

Spicy Squid - $13
I asked if I could get this dish without spice and they were okay with it so that made me happy. However, when I got it, it was very salty and moist. I love fried squid but this was a disappoint. Probably if it was tossed in chilli then it would've probably tasted better.

Ox Tongue - $9
The ox tongue was amazing! There were a lot of pieces to share with three people. Usually at other restaurants their proportions are smaller, but for this price and the amount of slices are just great! They were soft and easy to chew and tastes really well with sticky rice.

Pad Se Ew (beef) - $10.10
I love pad se ew (usually seafood is better). I let my friend choose the flavour and she loves beef. There was a lot of flavour which was good and it was cooked well. I would definitely recommend this dish!

There are desserts also available but we didn't try any. It wasn't as great of an experience as I thought it would be but it wasn't too bad. I would come back, but probably only during lunch. There are a lot of amazing reviews about this place, but this is just my opinion. Feel free to come and try this place if you are local!

Paradise Road (171 Coleman parade, Glen Waverley VIC 3150)

If you're ever in Melbourne, stop by Glen Waverley! The area is filled with all sorts of restaurants ranging from different cultures and different kinds of food. My boyfriend's cousin works at a Thai restaurant called Paradise Road so when we were down in Melbourne we decided to give it a go. The restaurant is set up with many decorations from the Thai culture. The atmosphere is lively and the service is amazing. The workers are friendly (not saying it only because I know one of the workers, they are really friendly). The manager is super friendly too and very easy to get along with. There were four of us for dinner, so we decided to order a few dishes and share :)

Thai Style BBQ Chicken - $17.90
The BBQ chicken was amazing! It was marinated with lemongrass garlic & coriander, served with sweet chilli sauce. It was tender and cooked well. We poured the sweet chilli sauce all over and the hot plate sizzled which made the chicken become hotter (in temperature) which was amazing! The rice on the side, was jasmine rice which wasn't surprising to me because I always have rice (Asian :P)

Vegetable Spring Rolls - $7.90
This was given to us as a complimentary dish from the manager. They are homemade with a spring roll skin and served with sweet chilli sauce. They're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. If you're vegetarian or just enjoy spring rolls, this is a pleasant entree to start with.

Pad See Ew (Seafood) - $21.90
I love Pad See Ew, however I don't think this dish was cooked well. There was not enough flavour. The seafood was good, but I was disappointed. It is a dish with stir fried flat noodles, vegetables, eggs and your choice of meat (which we chose seafood), and soy sauce. It was nicely stirred but just a bit more flavour and it would've been perfect.

Pad Thai (Chicken) - $16.90
This dish is stir fried with rice noodles, bean sprouts, been shoots, egg, bean curd, dry shrimps with tamarind sauce, crushed peanuts, preserved turnip and your choice of meat (we chose chicken). I'm not a big fan of Pad Thai but this dish had so much flavour it satisfied my taste buds so much that I finished this dish to myself! It was amazing.

Self Saucing Chocolate Pudding with Vanilla Ice cream - $8.90
We were recommended with this dish by one of the waiters. He told us what it was and that it was his favourite so we thought, why not. When it was served to us, we were given an extra scoop of vanilla ice cream, on the house. I was disappointed when I took a bite. It tastes exactly like the chocolate mud cake from Woolworths, which is only $5 for a whole cake. If I knew that, I would've ordered a different dish of dessert. For $8.90, this is quite pricey. The proportion is tiny and will probably only feed one person (we cut in into four pieces). In my opinion, I would've ordered something different. I love chocolate cake, but when I'm out for dessert I'd prefer something I can't always get easily.

I've had some comments from others saying that this restaurant is a bit pricey but I think it is a good amount for the dishes we ordered. I would recommend coming back to this restaurant as I love the worker's customer care! If you're ever in Melbourne, please stop by this restaurant! Glen Waverley is pretty much open 24/7! It's busy during the day and busier in the night!

Thai Deelite (2 Dale St, Fairfield NSW 2165)

This was my first time at Thai Deelite. I went with my two sisters and my older sister's boyfriend. When we arrived in the area there were two Thai restaurants next to eat other 'Yum Sab Lao Restaurant' or 'Thai Deelite', I chose Thai Deelite because the name sounded deelightful. Good thing I chose that one because it was amazeballs!

We went inside and it was empty, it was probably around 6-6:30PM. I can't remember which day it was because this was a couple of years ago but I still remember the service I received and the dishes we ordered. We were served by one of the chef's husbands. He wasn't Asian and had the most amazing customer service skills I've ever experienced! He is so nice and suggested which dishes we should order and described how they were cooked and tasted.

Crispy Chicken - price forgotten
This dish was cooked perfectly! It was really crispy which I enjoyed very much (I love crispy chicken so much!). There were 6 pieces which was enough for us to share and some sweet chilli sauce on the side.

Duck Eggs - $2.50 each
I'm not a big fan of duck eggs therefore there are only 3. However if you are a fan of duck eggs, this is recommended as my sisters and older sister's boyfriend enjoyed it very much.

Spring Rolls - price forgotten
I don't quite remember what this tasted like but I feel like it would taste like the Vietnamese spring rolls. There were 5 roll which was a good amount to share, and everything was good nicely!

Lao Sausages - price forgotten
This was my first time trying Lao sausages. I didn't know what I was expecting and when I tried it, it wasn't too bad. I can't handle chilli and the sausages are a bit spicy. They're chewy and a bit crispy on the outside. I don't remember what sauce it was but it did add more spice to the sausage. If you enjoy chilli, this dish is good!

Chicken Feet Salad - price forgotten
I love chicken feet salad! However, it was also spicy so I avoided eating too much of it. The chicken was soft which was good and there was enough sauce on it to add to the flavour. Highly recommended!

Fried Rice - price forgotten
The fried rice tasted like any fried rice, which was good. If you're a fan of fried rice this one is good! There's a bit of seafood in it which satisfies the taste buds.

Chocolate, Strawberry & Caramel dips and Fried Ice cream (in bread crumbs) - price forgotten
Time for dessert! The worker suggested to us that pretty much all the desserts they serve are delicious so we ordered all three! I've had fried ice cream before, only in deep fried bread crumbs so this dish wasn't new to me but it was good because I love ice cream and anything fried! It was also served with watermelon and oranges which was nice, having fruit on the side makes everything better.

Fried Ice cream (pastry) - price forgotten
We ordered fried ice cream in pastry form and this was my first time having it this way. It was good! I like the pastry one better as there's more ice cream (love ice cream so much). There was a side of pineapple which was in an odd colour and it tasted sweet rather then sour. The honeydew was sweet so that was good.

Deep Fried Banana with Vanilla Ice cream - price forgotten
I am a sucker for fried banana! It just goes so well with my taste buds. I enjoyed this dish very much (only because I love it so much). Adding ice cream to it made it even better. This is highly recommended if you're a banana fan! The oranges were easy to eat because the skin was already peeled off, whereas the oranges with the fried ice cream in bread crumbs weren't.

Overall, my first experience at Thai Deelite was a deelite! I would recommend this place for lunch or dinner. The prices aren't expensive. I don't remember how much it was but I remember the bill coming to $80+, no more than $90. The service was great, probably because we were the only ones there but I believe it would still be good service with the restaurant being busy! If you're in the area and feeling hungry for Thai/Lao food, this is the place to be!

Come sik with me!

Hi all!

I've decided to start a food blog after a few friends suggested that I should since I take photos of pretty much everything I eat! I've never really written a public blog to share, so if it's not in your interest I am not sorry :) You're probably wondering 'what does 'sik' mean?' it sounds silly doesn't it? I originally wanted my url to be 'comeeatwithme' but that was taken so I decided, why not put the word 'eat' in a different language? So then I decided to put 'comesikwithme' which in Chinese (Cantonese) means eat! Isn't that cool? I found it to be a smart idea so don't tease :P

Because I've started taking photos of food from awhile ago, I'm going to start writing about the restaurants I've eaten at so it's not going to be the exact day that I went to eat. But I am going to leave the most recent ones until last! So come back to check and I will have posts up whenever I go out to eat :D

Enjoy!
